The Pennsic Performing Arts Alliance
Pennsic 44
Introduction
The Pennsic Performing Arts Alliance is an attempt to gather all performing arts information for Pennsic 44 in one place. Dramatic changes in the way Pennsic is gathering its information (along with considerable effort on the part of several Responsible Parties) have made it possible to put nearly all of this information in a handy set of Google Calendars (developed and maintained by the Dean of Performing Arts) which can be viewed online, downloaded and printed out.
We've also included a number of links to activities which have their own websites, to official Pennsic resources, etc. Contact us if you want something added to the list.
The unofficial bardic activities schedule (Bards-by-Night) is now available for you to add items to.

The Calendars
Every performing arts activity we have heard of is included on a set of Google Calendars created lovingly by Lorelei Skye. This is an online embodiment of the Bards by Day/Bards by Night books.
- Three of these calendars are a guide to all activities scheduled by the Performing Arts Dean into the three PA tents (described here). This includes performances, Pennsic University classes, rehearsals, and other activities.
- Another is a listing of all Pennsic University classes scheduled in the bardic track in AS9. Note that due to space and time limitations and the great number of bardic classes scheduled this year, some performing arts classes will take place in the various PA tents and occasionally in other PU classrooms.
- And finally, there is a calendar of bardic activities most of which are not sponsored by any official Pennsic body. These officially unsponsored activities will be entered by you, dear reader. Although this is called the "Unsponsored calendar", it may include some official Pennsic activities, such as classes of interest which are not taking place in AS9 or the PA tents.
Bards-By-Day/Bards-by-Night Portal
Each year there is a compilation of all bardic activities (most often done in the past by Master Michael Alewright) printed in two parts, daytime and evening, and known as "Bards-by-Day" and "Bards-by-Night" (abbreviated to "BBD/BBN"). Since most of these activities are in either the Performing Arts tents or the Pennsic University bardic track and are therefore already on our Google Calendar, we are attempting to get all the unofficial activities onto a Google Calendar as well so that the BBD/BBN books will be accessible online before Pennsic, and also available at Pennsic in multiple formats. We've provided a form to enter these, and multiple ways to print or download the resulting calendars.
In other words:
Use the Calendar page to view the multiple calendars. In "Agenda" form, you can print out the calendars to have your own copy of the BBD/BBN books (but remember, people will probably be entering new activities until the last second)
Enter unofficial activities such as bardic circles, parties with entertainment, etc., using the "Add / Edit Activities" tab.
As with any Google Calendar, you can print to PDF, sync with your devices, download the calendars in iCal format, etc.
If you don't have a Google account, we have a couple mechanisms there to help you.
A paper copy of the BBD/BBN books will be available throughout the War. When the 2015 location is announced, it will be posted here. (Mystic Mail has hosted in recent Wars, so you can always check there.)
The Google Calendars which make up the BBD/BBN
Note that some of these have individual web pages of their own. Depending on the venue, this will include performances, performing arts and bardic classes at Pennsic U, rehearsals, auditions, and other activities.
These calendars continue to be filled in as information becomes available. Check back for updates.
All of the links below lead to unofficial web pages. A jester () indicates that the activities on the page are Pennsic-sanctioned. If there is no bullet in the first column, the page includes unofficial activities.

And Another Thing ...
Pennsic.net is a totally UNofficial fount of information about Pennsic, including the famed Pennsic Party Planner. Many performing arts activities are listed on the Planner, particularly those happening at (duh!) parties. We have encouraged people who list on Pennsic.net to duplicate the entry for the Bards by Day/Bards by Night calendars, but there may be some items there which are not found elsewhere. Maintained by Alexander the Lost. |
Volunteering
There are many opportunities to help out at Pennsic, from an hour or two to full-time jobs. For example, the performing arts venues need to be set up and struck, expos need folks to help stage manage, etc. For more information on this, contact the Dean of Performing arts.
The Performing Arts Venues of Pennsic 44
The venues are expected to remain the same as in recent years.
The Performing Arts Tent (PAT) - The familiar large tent used for evening performances, the PA afternoon series, and a few PA classes. Enter from St. Lawrence Way near Chandlers Road. Sometimes called the Main Stage. Multi-use performance, rehearsal, exhibition, and class space.
The Performing Arts Rehearsal Tent (PART) - TThis will be used for recurring rehearsals and many "loud" classes and activities (e.g., drumming). Not-so-loud activities have also been scheduled into this tent, as needed. Located next to the amphitheater. Sometimes called the "Rehearsal Tent". Known World Choir and European Music track, rehearsal, and class space.
Amphiteater Rehearsal Area (AMPI) - The amphitheater area (behind the bath house/laundry building) will host a number of classes, activities, events, and performances this year. Commedia/Foolery/Physical Theater class track and multi use performance space.
Pennsic University Bardic Track (AS9) - Where the majority of official Pennsic University performing arts classes will take place on the PU campus. The specific location on campus has not yet been designated, but it will probably be adjacent to the PAT.
